James M.
Private tutor in Chester, United Kingdom
Education
Oxford graduate, 1st class BA(Hons) Ancient & Modern History from Corpus Christi College.
Experience
Experience tutoring English as Foreign Language in summer schools, to Japanese undergraduates (Keio Summer School 2008) and Italian teens (Moneglia Summer Camp 2009). Extensive experience mentoring Oxford applicants and freshmen as Corpus Christi Subject Representative for Ancient History. 72.25 Finals average mark, top 1st in the School of Ancient and Modern History. College Scholarship for excellent academic performance. Very wide range of expertise from 20th-century Britain and USA to ancient texts and history. Selected for Oxford-Princeton Exchance in History 2007, one of only two students chosen to spend a term at Princeton University. I have always enjoyed the Oxford tutorial system, where learning is very much a two-way process based on a close relationship between student and teacher. Thanks to very small class sizes I had the opportunity to experience personalised tuition before applying to Oxford and consider it to have been fundamental to my success there. I want to pass on this personal feeling of connection to a subject and material to students whilst funding my graduate education.
